Still

Still is a series of twenty-four glass boxes, cataloguing and attempting to preserve memory.  Each  box describes a specific memory suggested through portions of dictionary pages and journal entries along with an assemblage of objects and materials relating to the memory.

Many of the objects contained in the boxes are old and worn.  Some are even in a process of deterioration, suggesting impermanence.  The edges of the boxes holding the glass together are rusting as a reminder of the contradiction in preserving what is ephemeral.  The objects are treated like relics; within the glass boxes they are carefully arranged and displayed as a precious collection.  They are representations of death and memoirs from life.  In a sense, the boxes are a series of memorials, memorializing lost lives.
